Tanzania can offer everything a traveler dreams of experiencing in Africa. Centrally located on the equator, warm and sunny, shaped by magnificent landscapes created by massive volcanic activity over millions of years.

The Great Rift Valley cuts through Tanzania, where about a quarter of the country has been protected for nearly a century

"The wildlife is impressive, diverse and is undoubtedly the country's main tourist attraction"

If you have just landed after half a day's overseas flight, it might be a good idea to acclimatise for a day at a nice lodge before wandering off towards the great outdoors. Safari means travelling, and even though great natural experiences await, it is also exhausting, so it makes sense to be rested and ready for safari.

The wildlife is impressive, diverse and is undoubtedly the country's main tourist attraction. The most accessible, and therefore well-known, safari destinations are located in northern Tanzania and start from the city of Arusha.

The city itself also has a safari park, Arusha National Park, especially popular for those who just want a single day trip on safari in connection with climbing Kilimanjaro. Otherwise, there is not much reason to be a tourist in Arusha if you are not going on a safari.

Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara National Park, and Tarangire National Park are a few hours' drive away, and Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru can be seen from the city.

In Tanzania, you can also challenge yourself to climb Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, which, with its 5895 meter height, is accessible to most people and takes you far above the clouds. Or the neighboring mountain Mount Meru, which is less traveled by and has the best view of Kilimanjaro! When your body is tired, dirty with savannah dust, saturated with experiences, then the tropical heat calls the Indian Ocean. Long white sandy beaches, with coconut palms and fishing villages, as the main feature on the coast, and just outside and below the surface, a mighty unnamed wonder of a coral reef. Not far away is Zanzibar, known as the Spice Island, with a samsurium of cultures, a harsh brutal history of slave trade and bloody battles, created by the greedy merchants of the sea route over the centuries. Here you can go exploring, relax, enjoy the warmth and with lots of cool drinks, recharge for the journey home.

Tanzania has a number of large natural areas that are less visited and do not have the same status as the world-famous national parks in the northern part of the country. However, there are many reasons to choose to visit the parks that still have plenty of game, beautiful nature and not nearly as many guests. Accessible from the capital, Dar es Salaam, to the southwest lies Mikumi National Park. A little further south, the biggest of them all, the Selous. The southern national parks in Tanzania, Ruaha and Katavi are characterized by being difficult to access for driving tourists, but if you can afford it, the relatively deserted safari lodges are conveniently connected by smaller scheduled flights. A trip to Africa that will certainly give you the feeling of a time that is long gone elsewhere in the world. Africa's rawness and wild landscapes that have drawn, and captivated, visitors for centuries. Here, time stands still, nature rules on its own terms, and there is room to put our own existence into perspective. You are spoiled by sumptuous simplicity, delicious meals, with a g&t by a crackling fire, a sparkling starry sky, and a serenade of sounds in the night. This is clearly my recipe for happiness, wealth and relaxation.
