A super popular safari destination is northern Tanzania, which is enriched with some of the best-known national parks and reserves in East Africa: the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tanrangire. These wild natural areas lie like pearls on a string along The Great Rift Valley and can be put together to form a perfect classic safari route. The parks are different, each with their own landscape characteristics, and are all extraordinarily rich in wildlife.

Regardless of whether you book a private safari or join a group tour where you share the car with others, the car will be driven by a professional local English-speaking guide. Typically driven in a strong 4x4 Toyota Landcruiser with room for 7 passengers. A private safari can be customized according to your wishes for accommodation and length of the trip. All safaris can be arranged with a beach holiday in Zanzibar. Here it is entirely up to you where you want to stay and how many days you want to add.

Non-binding offers are given. Prices vary according to travel season, current flights and number of participants in your travel company.

Below is the day-to-day program of a group tour - it can be booked on selected dates or used for inspiration....

  • Day 1: See you again Denmark!

You are flying from Denmark bound for Tanzania.

  • Day 2: Sense of Africa

On a private safari, many choose to set off for the national parks straight away, while others need a day to land and acclimatise.

  • Day 3: Tarangire National Park

After breakfast at the lodge, you will be met by your safari guide who will be with you on the following days safari. When the car is packed with your luggage, you set off for Tarangire National Park. The national park is a 2850 square kilometer protected area, unfenced like all other parks in Tanzania. Here the game moves freely and many animals wander freely between the other national parks in northern Tanzania every year - in search of food according to drought and rain. The landscape is characterized by giant baobab trees and scattered acacia trees on the savannah. The Tarangire River and the swamp area in the southern part of the national park attract lots of game - especially during the dry periods, even when the river is apparently dry, the Tarangire River is an annual source of water. The elephants dig in the sand for the water that flows below. Tarangire is known for its large herds of elephants, some with extraordinarily large tusks.

  • Day 4: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, the safari continues towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a large protected natural area around the Ngorongoro Crater, owned by the local Maasai. Here the Maasai have lived in harmony with the game and nature and the area is managed by the Maasai and although their traditional life is difficult, they proudly hold on to their culture and traditions. It is a very fascinating landscape, and when you drive up into the highlands, there is a great view down over Lake Manyara, which lies at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley. Perhaps the lake has a pink glow from flamingos that sometimes stay in huge flocks by the soda lake. The Great Rift Valley is a continental depression that stretches 6000 kilometers through Africa from Somalia to Mozambique. It is seen most clearly and perhaps most dramatically here in Tanzania, where volcanoes, soda lakes and ash plains characterize the landscape.

  • Day 5: Serengeti National Park

The night has been full of activity, which you have probably heard from your tent. Safari tents are a fantastic experience in themselves. When you have just got used to feeling completely safe behind the lightness of the canvas, it is hugely exciting that all the sounds of the night go straight through. Lions have such a deep call and roar that it can be heard many kilometers away, and it is difficult to judge how far away it is. The eerie and screeching laughter of hyenas, screeches from owls, warning calls from baboons, and then the loud symphony of cicadas are the sounds of the night on the African savannah. You know them and you will always remember them. When you wake up, it's about getting out early, as the morning hours have lots of activity on the savannah. Here, the nocturnal animals are busy getting back to their caves and hides, while the exposed prey that have survived the dangers of the night relax again and can spend most of the day foraging.

  • Day 6: The Ngorongoro Crater

Last breakfast on the savanna, and then there is a safari through the Serengeti, heading back towards the Ngorongoro Crater. Your guide has made sure to bring packed lunches for your lunch, which you will eat along the way. After lunch, you drive down over the rim of the crater and wind your way down the one-way dirt road down to the bottom of the crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is a spectacular, intact volcanic crater of 260 square kilometers with lush and varied nature within. There are hot springs, sulfur lakes, fresh water and swamps in the crater, and over 25,000 large mammals live here - including the endangered black rhinoceros. At the end of the day, you drive out of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to your lodge outside the area.

  • Day 7: Return home or on to Zanzibar

There is time to sleep a little longer than the last days on safari. After a good night's sleep and breakfast, you drive about 3 hours back to Arusha. You say goodbye to your guide, who drives you either to the small airport in Arusha, from where you can fly on a small plane to Zanzibar if you have chosen to combine this safari with a relaxing beach holiday by the Indian Ocean, or to Kilimanjaro airport if You must go home.
